  1. Caffiene says:

Brontosaurus is actually the old/incorrect name for the Apatosaurus, not the Brachiosuarus.

Also: more Cristina in future, plz 🙂

    • Wesley Harding says:

Also, Allosaurus was not a sauropod, but a therapod related to T.rex. I think Darren meant to say Apatosaurus.

  2. Tim Fletcher says:

And Stegosauri wouldn’t work. It’s a third declension, I think. Latin endings are generally not needed for loan words. Most grammarians suggest when pluralizing loan words to use the English plural system. Stegosauruses.

  3. Darren McKee says:

    Hi all,
Yes, you are correct gentlemen. I did mean to say Apatosaurus (but one of the heads of the old Bronto was then re-named Brachio).
Finally, I was sure when I said it that Stegosauri was wrong. 🙂

    Thanks for listening!

  4. Adam says:

Apparently we can do a whole episode on getting dinosaur names wrong!!!

  5. Greg Reagle says:

I immensely enjoyed this episode, as usual. You achieve a great combination of humor and education. Cristina did a great job–I’d love to hear her again.

Here is an article about the effectiveness of microwaving sponges in order to kill germs, which was mentioned in the episode: http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/food-poisoning/news/20070124/microwave-kills-germs-sponges

Why does Adam call us “cuboids?”

  6. Elan Dubrofsky says:

Why does Adam call us “cuboids?”

That’s like asking how Strongbad types with boxing gloves on.

    • Tim Fletcher says:

Elan, Homestarrunner was updated last like 5 years ago. Does anyone get Strongbad references anymore?

It’s like making a zombocom joke.

Then again, I got it. So that’s fair.

    • Tina says:

I have been catching up and binge listening to all the old podcasts, as I have only recently discovered this podcast and it’s phenomenal work you all do. I Googled “Why does Adam call us cuboids?” And found this thread.

      Best. Answer. Ever.

It’s just one of those unanswerable riddles; why does Adam call us cuboids? How does Strongbad type with boxing gloves? Why is a raven like a writing desk? All in the same circle of illogical nonsense.

      • Pat says:

I answered this question in an interview about TRC last week on another podcast (the Phil Ferguson show). Now I wish I could take my answer back and replace it with this one!
